After identifying, characterizing and packaging waste materials (by OSHA HAZWOPER-40 hour trained staff) into their appropriate UNDOT shipping containers, the containers are then labeled as per the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules.
Once the containers are labeled and marked they are loaded into trucks which have the proper licenses, permits and insurances to haul the hazardous waste. Drivers of these transport vehicles including tanker trucks are required to have the correct commercial driver licenses (CDLs) for the type of vehicle they are operating and wastes they are hauling.
Manifests for the loads are then completed and signed by the generators and transporters. Shipments are managed until they arrive into designated Transport Storage and Treatment Facilities (TSDF). Return copies of the manifests are tracked back to the generators once the wastes are accepted and processed at the various hazardous treatment and disposal facilities located throughout the country.
Emanifests are now part of the paperwork trail for hazardous waste shipments.
